The South African National Schools Winter Games were held in Durban this year for abled and differently abled learners. The Deaf made up one of the three categories that the Department of Sport and Recreation catered for.
Volleyball was one of the codes our learners from Fulton School for the Deaf participated in. Eight of our learners (6 girls and 2 boys) were selected to represent KZN Province. Our participants were: Wongi Mlambo, Latifah Jooma, Mbali Mhlongo, Nontobeko Mungwe, Sphumelele Mkhwanazi, Jennifer McMillan, Connor Ahern and Maxwell Mzimela. The KZN volley ball team was respectively coached and managed by two staff members from Fulton School (Mr Lucky Govender – coach and Lungile Shelembe (team manager).
Both the boys and girls competed against six other provinces and we are proud to announce that both our KZN Deaf teams won GOLD and we are the current National Champions. Our boys U17 team in the mainstream section also won GOLD.
